Bucky Brooks names Kayvon Thibodeaux to 2024 All-Breakout Team
NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks recently released his 2024 All-Breakout Team, in which he chose 11 players on each side of the ball that he believes “can make the leap to stardom in the fall.”
Featured on the defensive list is Giants outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux.
“After amassing 11.5 sacks in his second season, Thibodeaux could become the next elite pass rusher to flourish in the Big Apple,” wrote Brooks. “The 6-foot-5, 258-pounder thrives as a speed rusher off the edge — and now he’s in position to really wreak havoc, lining up across the formation from two-time Pro Bowler Brian Burns. New York’s blockbuster trade acquisition will command most of the attention as the team’s most established edge rusher, leading to more one-on-one opportunities for Thibodeaux. With second-team All-Pro DT Dexter Lawrence also wrecking shop inside, Thibodeaux could post monster numbers in Year 3.”
Thibodeaux recored four sacks and six tackles for loss across 14 games as a rookie, which helped him finish fourth in the Defensive Rookie of the Year voting.
The outside linebacker took a big step in 2023, increasing those numbers to 11.5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss in addition to three forced fumbles and four passes defensed while playing all 17 games.
As Brooks mentioned, Thibodeaux will now line up on the opposite end of the line as Burns, who registered eight sacks, 16 tackles for loss, 18 quarterback hits, one forced fumble and two passes defensed across 16 games last season.
Since the offseason trade was completed, the two outside linebackers have been spending a lot of time together, and have already been testing out new sack celebrations.
The trio of Thibodeaux, Burns and Lawrence, all of whom will enter the season below the age of 27, combined for 148 quarterback pressures last season, according to Pro Football Focus.
