Giants Now: Experts analyze Malik Nabers’ preseason performance

Numerous media outlets handed out grades from the second preseason game to the top rookies across the league.

To no one’s surprise, the remarks about Nabers were positive across the board.

“Sensational performance from Nabers against the Texans. His 14-yard reception — his first of the preseason after not being targeted in the opener — was a clear demonstration of his incredible acceleration from a dead stop, and his 21-yard catch to cap his afternoon was a tremendous grab in tight quarters near the sideline.”

“The rookie grabbed an out route for 14 yards later in the first quarter (surviving another Ward hit); then, he set up a field goal as the first half wound down by using his strong mitts to snatch a sideline pass while twisting his body in the air for a 21-yard pickup. The speedy receiver slipped coming out of his cut on another play but regained his balance, found the ball and held on for a 16-yard gain. Nabers gave some effort as a blocker during his half of play, but his best hit came when he was picking off a defender on a mesh, springing Jalin Hyatt open.”

“Nabers was the Giants’ best offensive player against the Texans. He finished his second preseason game with four catches totaling 54 yards while earning an 82.7 PFF receiving grade. Two of Nabers’ four receptions were contested, including a spectacular catch down the sideline over Kris Boyd. Nabers may already be establishing himself as the Giants’ most explosive playmaker. They just need to find ways to consistently get him the ball.”
