Giants Replace Daniel Jones With Drew Lock Against Eagles

The New York Giants are currently being beaten by the Philadelphia Eagles 28-3, and have decided to make a change at quarterback. Early in the fourth quarter, the team decided to replace Daniel Jones with Drew Lock.

Lock comes in to try and lead the Giants into scoring some sort of points, though he will be up against this tough Eagles defense that has kept New York limited all Sunday.

Jones has gone 14 for 21 passes for 99 yards in the game and is now being sat in favor for Lock. So far, there has been no indication if Jones is not going to be the starter moving forward, but being benched right now does not sound like good news for the veteran quarterback.

Lock was acquired in the offseason, after spending the 2023 season as the backup for Geno Smith with the Seattle Seahawks. During the 2023 season, Lock appeared in four games, throwing for 543 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions.

The Giants have been allowing Jones to play through his struggles, and he has not played the best in 2024 so far. Through six games, he has logged 1,343 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions through six games.

During the 2024 NFL Draft, the Giants opted to draft a playmaker instead of targeting one of the highly touted quarterback prospects coming out of college. The team went with wide receiver Malik Nabers with the No. 6 overall pick, which ended up being a good pick.

Nabers has been excellent in his rookie season, putting together 386 yards and three touchdowns through four games. The young rookie was knocked out of Week 4 and 5 after suffering a concussion, but he is back in the lineup.

Despite Nabers being back, the Giants offense has not been able to get anything going against the Eagles, which has resulted in Jones being benched.

Jones might still be the starter moving forward, but Giants head coach Brian Daboll might also be thinking that a switch could be on the horizon if Jones continues to play like he did today. To be fair, the offensive line needs to do its part too, as they have given up eight sacks on the day.

Jones has always dealt with questionable protection, but the game against the Eagles poses an even bigger problem for the Giants.

Lock is now in at quarterback, which might also be a way for the Giants to preserve Jones from being hit too many more times.
