Giants roster cuts tracker 2024: Tracking New York’s moves to 53-man roster limit

Sunday, Aug. 25

The New York Giants cut 10 players on Sunday morning, per head coach Brian Daboll. They are:
DL Kyler Baugh
CB Breon Borders
S Clayton Isbell
WR John Jiles
RB Joshua Kelley
LB Trey Kizer
RB Lorenzo Lingard
OL Marcus McKethan
WR Ayir Asante

The biggest news might be the cut of McKethan, a fifth-round pick by Joe Schoen in 2022.

Daboll also announced that defensive tackle Timmy Horne suffered a torn Achilles tendon on Saturday night against the New York Jets.

Training camp and the preseason are over. The New York Giants and the other 31 NFL teams have until Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET to trim their rosters from 90 players to the 53-man regular season limit. Use this post to track all of the cuts, trades, waiver claims and signings as the Giants set the roster that will face the Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 8 at MetLife Stadium in the Giants season-opening game.

This is a difficult time for NFL players. Players who are not assured of roster spots have done everything they can. All they can do now is wait for a phone call they hope doesn’t come. Some will see their careers end. Some will continue their NFL journey at an unknown destination. There are mixed feelings even for those who will make the roster. They know that several players they have worked with and perhaps become close to over the past few months won’t be around after Tuesday.

Wide receiver Allen Robinson, in his 11th season, enters cut down day unsure for the first time in his career if he will make the 53-man roster.

“Whatever’s going to happen is going to happen,” Robinson said after Saturday’s preseason finale against the New York Jets. “If you had asked me a few weeks ago how I approach it I would have said put together good days in training camp, be consistent, so on and so forth. At this stage of the game whatever is meant to be is meant to be.”

Battling for a spot as an extra receiver, Robinson said “I feel like I made plays” throughout the summer. Now, all he can do is wait.

Veteran center Austin Schlottman entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He spent time with the Denver Broncos and Minnesota Vikings before signing with the Giants this offseason. He knows the pre-cut down day drill, and said it is “absolutely” a strange time for players.

“You just hang out with the guys, try to get your mind off of it, hope you don’t get a call, but if you then that’s just the way it goes,” Schlottman said. “Praying you don’t, but if you do that’s part of it.

“That’s kind of what you sign up for. It’s that time of year.”

Undrafted rookie free agent guard Jake Kubas seems firmly on the bubble between the 53-man roster and practice squad. He is trying not to worry about it.

“I’ve always been just a control what you can control kind of guy,” Kubas said. “I think I’ve had some good, some bad. Always going to say that, though. Always think I can do better and improve.

“Whatever happens happens.”

Hundreds of players across the league feel the same way.

Keep coming back here for updates as the Giants set their beginning roster for the 2024 season.
