Giants sign OL Greg Van Roten; CB Aaron Robinson waived/failed physical

The New York Giants signed offensive lineman Greg Van Roten while cornerback Aaron Robinson was waived/failed physical.

Last season, the 6-foot-3, 305-pound New York native started all 17 games at right guard for the Raiders. He played under offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo, whom the Giants hired this offseason for the same role.

Van Roten initially entered the league as an undrafted free agent with Green Bay in 2012 and has 110 games with 71 starts under his belt: 43 at right guard, 27 at left guard, and one at center. He spent two seasons with the Packers (2012-13), three with the Panthers, (2017-19), two with the Jets (2020-21), and one apiece with the Bills (2022) and Raiders (2023). Van Roten has also appeared in four career postseason games, two in 2012 with the Packers and two in 2022 with the Bills.

Van Roten played two seasons in the Canadian Football League with the Toronto Argonauts (2015-16), starting games at center, right guard, right tackle and left tackle, while earning recognition as an Eastern All-Star his first season in the league.

Prior to the NFL, Van Roten played four seasons at the University of Pennsylvania (2008-11), starting in all 30 games of his final three seasons and earning unanimous All-Ivy honors as a senior. He received Penn’s Bednarik Award as a junior and senior, given to the most outstanding offensive and defensive lineman. Van Roten graduated from the Wharton School with a Bachelor of Science in Economics.

He attended Chaminade High School in Mineola, N.Y., and was a team captain as a senior. Van Roten earned New York All-State and All-Catholic High School Football League honors.

Robinson spent the entire 2023 season on the physically unable to perform list, one year after he was limited to two games because he had his appendix removed and tore his ACL. The former third-round pick has played in just 11 games with four starts since being drafted by the Giants in 2021.
