Both the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers have seen better days. Both clubs hopped on a plane to Munich with 2-7 records and more questions about the future than answers for the present. The Panthers took Bryce Young No. 1 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, and at best, his tenure could be described as a work in progress. His struggles are well documented, but the franchise being in position to be at the top of the draft again isn’t all on him. The Carolina defense is last in the league, allowing nearly 400 yards and 33 points per game.
The Giants’ quarterback situation isn’t much better, but it is significantly more expensive. Only Gardner Minshew and Bo Nix have lower passer ratings than Daniel Jones this season, among quarterbacks with at least eight starts. Jones is in Year 2 of a four-year, $160 million contract that the Giants can get out of this offseason if they choose to release him, with $22 million in dead money for next year’s salary cap. Being away from home could be a boon for Jones and the Giants, however — only two of Jones’ eight touchdown passes have come at MetLife Stadium this year, where the Giants are 0-5.

Ref Shawn Hochuli breaks out German for the penalty call
No seriously, the Giants are bad
Unbelievable. Panthers gift the Giants five yards by going offside on a punt and Daboll still punts on fourth-and-2 from midfield.
The early reviews are in for Bryce Young in this start, and thus far he’s getting great notices.
That’s an encouraging drive if you’re a Panthers fan. Young skill guys contributing all over the place. Line blocking their butts off. Bryce playmaking in the red area. Fun!
Embarrassing drive for the Giants’ defense. The perimeter just got shredded in the run game. Deonte Banks showed no interest in setting the edge on Chuba Hubbard’s 26-yard run on third-and-1.
Chuba Hubbard, who reminds some on the Panthers coaching staff of a young Marshawn Lynch when he came over to the Seahawks, got paid last week when he signed a four-year contact extension.
It took him just a few minutes during today’s game to show exactly why.
Brian Burns sacks old QB in first big play for Giants
Linebacker Brian Burns was traded last week from the Panthers to the Giants, which he told NFL Network “surprised” him. But now he’s convinced he’s exactly where he needs to be, and proved it on one of the first few plays of the game by sacking his old QB Bryce Young.
Guten tag! It’s time for football!
We’re almost underway in Germany, but first we heard this lovely rendition of the national anthem.
Commissioner Roger Goodell is in Germany
If he appears on the big screen, fans there should know what to do: boo the living daylights out of him. It’s tradition!
