Global soccer superstars attend NBA Christmas Game in New York

Christmas Day in the NBA has long been a celebration of basketball, with marquee matchups and thrilling moments on the court. However, this year’s slate of games featured European soccer stars, who attended the festivities during their seasonal break.

The standout moment came during the New York Knicks’ victory over the San Antonio Spurs, led by  Victor Wembanyama. While the game was full of its own drama, Real Madrid’s Vinícius Júnior, fresh off winning the FIFA The Best award, was the most talked-about figure in the crowd. The Brazilian winger was spotted exchanging jerseys with Knicks’ Josh Hart, a passionate fan of Chelsea FC.

Vinícius didn’t stop there. The Brazilian also gifted a jersey to Knicks legend Carmelo Anthony, who was in his usual spot at Madison Square Garden with his son, Kiyan. The gesture highlighted the mutual respect between athletes across sports.

Other notable soccer stars were also in attendance. Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala and Michael Olisé took in the action, and the two young players were seen ranking the greatest basketball players of all time, including LeBron James, Michael Jordan, and Kobe Bryant. Both players were also thrilled to meet Carmelo Anthony in person, a moment that left them in awe of the basketball legend.

Additionally, Bundesliga stars Marcel Sabitzer (Bayer Munich), Marius Wolf (Augsburg), and Denis Suárez (Villarreal) also made appearances, showing the strong crossover between European football and American basketball.

The Christmas Day games may have been dominated by the NBA, but the presence of these soccer superstars proved that sports fandom knows no borders.
