Golf: Chris Sanger leads Northeastern New York PGA Professional Championship
CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — Woodstock Golf Club head pro Chris Sanger fired a 4-under-par 68 on Monday, Aug. 5, to grab a one-stroke lead in the Northeastern New York PGA Professional Championship at Eagle Crest Country Club.
Sanger is being chased by head pro Jeremy Kerr of Van Schaick Island Country Club and assistant pro Scott Berliner of Glens Falls Country Club, who both shot 3-under 69s.
Ben Weaver, head pro at Saratoga National Golf Club, is sitting alone in fourth place following a 2-under 70.
Sanger had five birdies and an eagle in his round.
Sanger, Kerr and Berliner will tee off in the final group at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday in the 36-hole event.
Former Rondout Country Club and Inness golf professional John DeForest had a 2-over 74 and Wiltwyck Golf Club head pro Trevor Alexander had an 80. Unattached pro Darryl Jack of the Hotel Dylan shot a 13-over 85.
The top two finishers earn a spot in the PGA Professional Championship on April 27-30, 2025, at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
