Golf: Herdegen champ Ben Fox finishes in a tie for 59th at New York State Men’s Amateur Championship

HAMBURG, N.Y. — Reigning Ulster County Men’s Amateur Golf Championship (The Herdegen) winner Ben Fox of Woodstock Golf Club finished in a tie for 59th Thursday in the weather-shortened New York State Men’s Amateur Championship at Wanakah Country Club in Hamburg.

After making the cut with a 4-over-par 76 on Tuesday, Fox posted rounds of 79 and 76 on Thursday for a 54-hole total of 15-over 231.

Wiltwyck Golf Club’s Donte Groppuso and Vlad Olenski failed to survive the cut, which was reduced from 36 holes to 18 holes due to inclement weather.

Aiden Spampinato, a junior at Memodist University and a member of Cobblestone Creek Country Club in Victor, New York, won the event with a three-round total of 6-under 210. He had rounds of 67, 72 and 71.
