Haason Reddick’s holdout is finally over. 

As Week 7’s Sunday slate is about to get underway in the NFL, the Jets took care of a bit of business this morning, reportedly signing Reddick to a reworked, short-term deal, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. 

The linebacker is set to report to the team on Monday morning, after the Jets’ “Monday Night Football” matchup with the Steelers. 

Reddick has yet to play in a game this season after he was acquired by New York in an offseason trade with Philadelphia. The 30-year-old was looking to secure a long-term deal before the season, however, no such agreement with the Jets was made.

The exact details of Reddick’s contract are not known. It has simply been reported as a reworked deal for the short term, presumably being just for the rest of the 2024 season. 

The two sides will have a chance to come to agree on a long-term deal at a later point.

“We will continue to work towards a long term extension with the Jets,” Reddick’s new agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said. 

Reddick was subjected to fines for failing to report to the team, however ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Jets are willing to waive over $12 million in fines in exchange for Reddick’s participation the rest of the 2024 campaign.

Reddick did not report to the team throughout training camp or to start this season in the hopes of securing a new, long-term contract with the Jets — despite not playing a single game for the organization. 

The edge rusher spent the entire summer away from the practice field as he demanded a new deal from the club. In early August, he went as far as to request a trade away from the club that had recently acquired him.

However, the New York organization released a statement stating it would not move the veteran pass-rusher.

“We have informed Haason that we will not trade him,” GM Joe Douglas said after the request.

While plenty of holdouts and hold-ins around the NFL resulted in new deals at the start of the season, Reddick was not one of them. Week 1 came and went without an agreed extension in place, and as a result, Reddick did not play the first seven games. 

When the Jets held an introductory press conference for Reddick in April, New York reportedly told him at the time that it was the franchise’s preference to discuss a new contract either during the season or after it. All indications are the club wanted to see Reddick perform on the field before making a long-term commitment. 

Reddick switched agents, securing Rosenhaus as his new representation. After that change was made, an agreement came to fruition for the 2024 season.
