‘Hard Knocks’ Clip Shows Giants Coach Grilling Jayden Daniels Before Draft

The ever-popular “Hard Knocks” series has returned with three versions in 2024. The regular format of showcasing a team during training camp and preseason is still happening, but the program also includes a new in-season version that will feature the entire AFC North — and showcase the New York Giants’ offseason.

From preparing for the NFL Draft and free agency, the series now takes a microscope to the moves the Giants made to get ready to compete in the NFC in 2024. From allowing Saquon Barkley to test free agency and acquiring defensive end Brian Burns, the Giants are being examined in a unique way.

The NFL has also been releasing clips of what it’s like in this situation, including a new clip showing the ridiculous grilling that potential NFL rookie quarterbacks have to go through.

The above clip from “Hard Knocks” showcases rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels going through an interview with Giants head coach Brian Daboll. Daniels is shown drawing up a play on a whiteboard, with Daboll quickly throwing out instructions for the young rookie to change up the way the play on the board looks.

Daniels is also asked to quickly repeat a play call back, which is what quarterbacks have to do in the huddle with the massive noise that surrounds them from fellow teammates and droves of fans in the crowd.

Daniels has a bit of a stumble, but when Daboll asks “If it’s cover one, what do we want you to do?” the quarterback impresses with his “throw a touchdown” response.

Fans are not often given such an in-depth look at the drafting process, apart from seeing images of the war rooms that are shown during the NFL Draft. The interviews that rookies go through with each team are never presented this way, which is what makes this video so unique.

What makes the video also intriguing is that the Giants were heavily rumored to make a move up in the 2024 NFL Draft, though they stayed put at No. 6 overall to select LSU receiver Malik Nabers.

Daniel was taken No. 2 overall by the Washington Commanders and could be their franchise quarterback for the foreseeable future. The Giants may be kicking themselves for sticking with Daniel Jones, but at least fans can get an inside look at the thought process the team engaged in regarding passing on a young rookie quarterback in the top 10 of the draft.
