Has Aaron Rodgers’ tenure with the New York Jets come to an end? Woody Johnson finally spoke on the uncertainty surrounding his future | NFL News – Times of India

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson finally spoke on the uncertainty surrounding the future of quarterback Aaron Rodgers. As the Jets go on a quest to find a new head coach and general manager, Aaron Rodgers’ incumbency hangs in the balance.

Will Aaron Rodger leave the New York Jets in 2025?

Aaron Rodgers future with the New York Jets is indeed in limbo as there is significant uncertainty about his next step following the 2024 NFL season. Rodgers, who joined the Jets in 2023, has faced challenges during his tenure including a significant Achilles injury that sidelined him for most of his first season.

For the 2024 season, he again joined the team and managed to achieve no playoff qualification due to a result that put the team with a record of 5-14. With these setbacks the four time Super Bowl winner finally threw his 500th touchdown pass in his NFL career on the final day of the season and had his side come out successful 32-20 over Miami Dolphins.
The financial factors are also at play in the decision-making process. Contractually, Roger has some major salary-cap implications, including a potential $49 million dead money charge should he be cut or retire prior to June 1, 2025. Keeping him would lead to $23.5 million in cap hits for the upcoming season.
Johnson acknowledged Rodger’s individual success but highlighted that winning games during his time in New York has not been a significant factor. “OK, except for the most important number winning games,” Johnson said. “But that’s going to be up to the coach. The coach will have to decide what the quarterback situation is. That’s going to be a very important job for the general manager and the coach-what do we want and when so we get it and what’s our timeline. Where does Aaron Rodgers fit into that?”
The Jets are currently facing vacancies at both position having fired former head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas at different points during the season .Rodgers 41 was acquired in a trade with the Green Bay Packers in 2023 and pegged to be the missing team for the team that hasn’t made a postseason appearance since 2010.

“If they want to move on, I won’t be upset or offended.” said Rodgers. “If I still want to play, I will let them know at some point.” As the Jets prepare for the offseason, Rodgers has expressed a desire to rest and recover before making any decisions in the future. He has indicated that he will announce his plans before the start of free agency in March.
