However, that wasn’t the beginning; earlier last week, the team had announced that they were benching Jones in favor of Tommy DeVito, who had a brief stint as the Giants’ QB1 last season but was not second in the depth chart this year. Then, Jones played safety during a practice following his demotion. It all led to the news of his release on Friday.

So, DeVito will get the start this week against Tampa Bay, and a chance to prove that the team isn’t “imploding” despite a tumultuous bye week on top of an already disastrous season.
