“I’m super happy that I’ve done it in New York” – Monfils

“To be honest with you. I always loved the format, and it suits perfectly with my personality, who I am, what I like. When you enter a competition, you really want to have your name on the trophy and to lift the trophy. The trophy is super cool. I always dreamt to lift it and I’m just super happy that I’ve done it in New York. New York is a special city for me. I always say it’s like a second home for me. I’m quite pleased with my performance, but super happy that I won my first (UTS) in New York.”

Monfils added he was focused on the competition even as he kept his eye on things he wanted to improve ahead of the US Open, which kicks off on Monday.

“We are very close to a Grand Slam. The focus is completely different. I wanted to show more and more about my game. Try to focus on some details that I saw, like I had to improve, to be better in three days. And then it just worked perfectly because no matter what you have the new format, you have music. So it made me to have a good mood but completely focus on what I’m doing.”
