Insane play falls flat as Rodgers slams ‘ridiculous’ decisions

Josh Allen and the Bills overcame a Hail Mary touchdown throw by Aaron Rodgers to outlast the New York Jets 23-20 in a tight clash on Tuesday (AEDT).

Allen threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score and Tyler Bass made up for an earlier miss by kicking a go-ahead 22-yard field goal to get Buffalo over the line.

The loss was the third in a row for the Jets (2-4), who capped a tumultuous week during which coach Robert Saleh was fired, defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich replaced him as the interim coach and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett was demoted.

Normally reliable kicker Greg Zuerlein missed two potential go-ahead field goals for the Jets, hitting the left upright on both attempts.

Rodgers finished the game with 294 passing yards with two touchdowns, including an insane throw just before the half-time break.

The veteran quarterback threw the ball from his own 48-yard line to Allen Lazard, who leaped up above the Bills defence to snatch it for a touchdown. After a quick huddle, officials confirmed the score.

The game was filled with yellow penalty flags all night — both teams had 11 penalties – leading to a filthy response from Rodgers in his press conference.

“It seemed a little ridiculous,” he said.

“Some of them seemed really bad, including the roughing passer on me. That’s not roughing the passer. We might as well play ‘Sarcastaball’ if we are gonna call those.”

Rodgers and his teammates will look to regroup when they take on the Steelers in week seven, while the Bills turn their attention to the Titans.
