Inside Elizabeth Olsen’s New York Fashion Week

Documenting her getting-ready process for Vogue, Olsen hit the Tory Burch show with a refined look. The star wore one of Burch’s textural suits, consisting of a polka-dot blazer and geometric-print trousers. “When I saw the bow-legged pants, I knew they would be a fast favourite,” says Olsen. “They’re flattering, comfortable, and cool. The shape and texture of them with the pattern of the blazer is playful and relaxed.” On the runway, meanwhile, Olsen says she was a fan of the spring-ready dresses. “I loved this dress. It’s effortless and in person, you could see how beautifully it moved,” she says. (Perhaps we will see her sporting it on the red carpet sometime soon.)

When asked what pieces Olsen will be wearing this autumn ahead, the star admits that she is dressing mostly for comfort, but will be looking to take more risks. Call it the fashion week effect. “I have enjoyed doing press recently for His Three Daughters with Carrie Coon and Natasha Lyonne; They’ve inspired me to show more leg and embrace dressing up,” says Olsen. The actor adds that much of her wardrobe is made up of vintage pieces that she’s collected over the years. “When I travel, I always try to find at least one special item from a vintage shop,” says Olsen. “The pieces often end up being blazers and button ups from the ’80s and ’90s, but I’m starting to build a slate of back-up vintage dresses fit for a red carpet if I’m ever in a pinch.”

Olsen certainly has more step and repeats to hit in the weeks to come: she will be continuing to do press for His Three Daughters, and also attending a world premiere for her new film, The Assessment, alongside Alicia Vikander and Himesh Patel. “It’s a real privilege to make a film, and I’m incredibly proud to support the work in both of these independent films and share them with the world.” We’re excited, too, Liz.

Below, see how Olsen got ready for the Tory Burch show.
