Jets begin general manager, head coach search with support from former GM Mike Tannenbaum

Tannenbaum spent 16 years with the Jets at the turn of the century, rising up from director of player contracts to GM. He oversaw four winning seasons and two trips to the AFC title game in his seven seasons as general manager. He has since served as executive VP of football operations for the Miami Dolphins and a TV analyst for ESPN.

Spielman, a veteran NFL executive, most recently served as GM of the Minnesota Vikings from 2012-2021.

The Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh in October amid his fourth season with the team and axed GM Joe Douglas last week as New York went into its bye with a 3-8 record. Jeff Ulbrich and Phil Savage are currently serving as the team’s interim head coach and general manager, respectively.

Whoever takes over the reins in New York will be inheriting an organization in flux. In addition to the ousters of Saleh and Douglas, the Jets may part ways with quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the offseason after two disappointing years. New York could also see Johnson leave the team and take a role in President-elect Donald Trump’s administration, as he did in 2017.

New York returns to play in Week 13, hosting the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
