As veteran edge-rusher Haason Reddick continues his holdout from the New York Jets ahead of Monday night’s season opener against the San Francisco 49ers, the money he’s losing is starting to pile up.
Per The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt, Reddick is set to forfeit a game check of $791,666 for missing Monday’s game and every subsequent game he misses. As ESPN’s Adam Schefter noted, this is on top of the $5 million in mandated fines he’s already racked up from the NFL for his holdout.

Reddick was placed on the reserve/did not report list at the start of training camp and was absent for the entirety of the Jets’ offseason program after the team acquired him in a trade from the Philadelphia Eagles in March. Reddick requested to be traded from New York last month, but general manager Joe Douglas announced that he has no intentions of fulfilling that request.
While there doesn’t appear to be an end coming for Reddick’s holdout anytime soon, Jets head coach Robert Saleh maintained his public support of the 29-year-old.
“I’ll stand firm that when he gets here, we’re going to welcome him with open arms,” Saleh said Saturday, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini. “We’re going to love him up, and he’s going to be a part of this football team and he’s going to help us win a lot of football games. He’s got to sort through the financial stuff, which is none of my business.”
Reddick and his agent have yet to publicly comment on what they hope to achieve from this holdout. While it’s clear that the two-time Pro Bowler was hoping to get a raise from the $14.25 million he’s set to make in the final year of his current contract, a holdout for the entire season would result in the Jets maintaining his rights for the 2025 campaign.
Perhaps New York’s performance on Monday Night Football against San Francisco will help sway Reddick’s desire to put an end to the fines he’s accumulating and join the team.
