Jets vs. Patriots final score, results: Aaron Rodgers makes strong home debut as New York’s defense dominates in divisional win | Sporting News United Kingdom

The Aaron Rodgers-led Jets are looking more dangerous by the week.

To kick off Week 3 of the NFL season, New York hosted the Patriots on “Thursday Night Football” and took care of business. The Jets cruised to a 24-3 win over New England behind 281 passing yards and two touchdowns from Rodgers and a dominant defensive effort, improving to 2-1 this season.

From start to finish, the Patriots’ offense found no rhythm. Their run game was shut down by the Jets, and Jacoby Brissett threw for just 98 yards on 12 completions. New York recorded six sacks in the game, an effort that was led by two from 2023 first-round pick Will McDonald IV.

As the fourth quarter clock ticked down in the blowout, New England head coach Jerod Mayo made the decision to replace Brissett with rookie Drake Maye. He finished with 22 passing yards in his NFL debut during the final frame of a lopsided matchup.

It was a tough four quarters for a Patriots team that was beginning to look like a solid squad under Mayo after coming in at 1-1 with a win over the Bengals and an overtime loss to the Seahawks. Through three weeks, New England is tough to get a read on, but its offensive output was uninspiring on Thursday night.

As for the Jets, Rodgers had his best game yet in front of the home crowd at MetLife Stadium, and their offense continued to rely on the rushing duo of Breece Hall and Braelon Allen, who both finished with over 50 rushing yards. New York put together a strong overall effort on Thursday and continued to assert itself as a legitimate contender to win the AFC East this season.

Jets vs. Patriots results, highlights from Week 3 ‘Thursday Night Football’ game

All times E.T.

11:14 p.m. — The Jets defense wraps this divisional matchup up with a sack. Maye finished with four completions for 22 yards in his first NFL action, but New York had already run away with a 24-3 win to improve to 2-1 this season.

11:11 p.m. — An 11-yard scramble for Maye keeps the drive alive with the clock ticking down.

11:09 p.m. — Maye’s first two completions go for no gain and two yards, and after the two-minute warning, he’s sacked by Will McDonald IV.

11:06 p.m. — Maye hasn’t yet completed his first pass as a Patriot, but RB Antonio Gibson picks up a first down to give the rookie another chance.

11:01 p.m. — New York is doing its best to run the clock down with its 21-point lead, giving Breece Hall and Braelon Allen some carries. However, the Jets punt, and here comes rookie Drake Maye to make his Patriots debut.

10:54 p.m. — For the fifth time tonight, the Patriots punt. Jacoby Brissett was sacked by Javon Kinlaw on third down.

Jets 24, Patriots 3

10:49 p.m. FIELD GOAL— An 18-yard catch for Williams is the highlight of the Jets’ drive. They settle for a field goal with around 10 minutes remaining.

10:43 p.m. — Another brutal break for New England’s offense: Rhamondre Stevenson has the ball ripped away by Chuck Clark on the first play of the Patriots’ drive, and the Jets take over.

10:41 p.m. — 3rd & 33 was a bit too much for the Jets, and they punt to begin the fourth quarter.

End of third quarter: Jets 21, Patriots 3

10:35 p.m. — On 2nd & 25, Rodgers is sacked by New England LB Joshua Uche for an eight-yard loss. Jets offensive lineman Morgan Moses went down with an injury on the play.

10:33 p.m— Conklin is nearing the 100-yard receiving mark, now with 93 in the game. Rodgers finds him for two more completions to move New York into Patriots territory.

10:26 p.m. — Jets fans seem to be enjoying their new quarterback making his home debut tonight.

10:23 p.m. — Once again, the Patriots’ mistakes come back to bite them. After two holding calls in a row, a 21-yard gain is erased. On 3rd & 14, New York’s Quinnen Williams gets to Brissett for a sack, and New England will punt once again.

10:20 p.m. — Brissett makes two of his biggest plays of the game with a 22-yard completion to WR DeMario Douglas and a 19-yard completion to TE Austin Hooper.

Jets 21, Patriots 3

10:12 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — On 1st & Goal, Rodgers throws to the front right corner of the end zone, where Garrett Wilson snags his first touchdown pass of the season. Despite Tyler Conklin and Allen Lazard leading Jets receivers in yards tonight, we have our first Rodgers-Wilson touchdown connection.

10:05 p.m. — After some short-yardage gains to begin their first second-half drive, the Jets are once again inside New England’s 20-yard line. Rodgers completes a pass to Conklin for 18 yards to keep New York’s offense rolling.

9:58 p.m. — Not finding much offensively, the Patriots punt after a three-and-out. Their offensive struggles have been clear tonight:

9:55 p.m. — New England begins the second half with the ball, still looking to put its first touchdown in the books.

9:45 p.m. — The halftime QB numbers: Aaron Rodgers is 15/20 with 170 yards and a touchdown pass, while Jacoby Brissett is 7/10 with 36 yards. Neither has thrown an interception.

Halftime: Jets 14, Patriots 3

9:38 p.m. — Rodgers finds Mike Williams for 11 yards, but then has a few incompletions from there to set up a 45-yard field goal for Greg Zuerlein. The kick is no good though, keeping New York up 14-3 going into halftime.

9:29 p.m. — The Jets are feeding Hall as they approach field goal range. The running back is up to 66 total yards tonight, with 23 of them coming in the air.

9:23 p.m. — Tyler Conklin picks up his second 22-yard catch of the day to put the Jets near the 50-yard line as the they hit the two-minute warning for the first half. New York could potentially tack some more points on before halftime.

Jets 14, Patriots 3

9:15 p.m. FIELD GOAL — The Patriots got enough out of that drive, mostly through a 34-yard pass interference penalty on New York, to get on the board with three points.

9:10 p.m. — New England can’t build much offensive momentum right now. Rhamondre Stevenson picks up 20 yards on the ground, but it gets called back for a face mask. A Jets penalty then gives the Patriots a first down, but Brissett is then sacked by Chuck Clark to move right back.

Jets 14, Patriots 0

9:05 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — After a lengthy review, Breece Hall barely snuck in the end zone for a one-yard rushing TD, which puts the Jets up by two scores. It’s been an impressive game for Aaron Rodgers so far, as he’s 12-for-14 with 135 passing yards and a touchdown.

8:59 p.m. — New York is back at 1st & Goal. Rodgers completed a pass to TE Tyler Conklin for 22 yards, putting the Jets in a good position to score again.

8:55 p.m. — The chemistry between Rodgers and Lazard from their Packers days is clear. Lazard picks up 27 yards after making some New England defenders miss.

End of first quarter: Jets 7, Patriots 0

8:53 p.m. — Breece Hall picks up six yards on the ground, giving him 28 in the game so far. That concludes the first frame of action.

8:47 p.m. — On 3rd & 7, Brissett is sacked by Micheal Clemons and Will McDonald IV. New England will punt again, and the Jets have an opportunity to go up by two scores in the first quarter.

8:44 p.m. — As the Patriots look to answer, Jacoby Brissett completes passes to WR Ja’Lynn Polk and TE Hunter Henry to move the chains.

Jets 7, Patriots 0

8:38 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — New York is moving the ball well in the first quarter. Rodgers completes a quick eight-play drive with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Lazard, already the receiver’s third score of the season.

8:32 p.m. — 20-year-old RB Braelon Allen starts the Jets’ drive with two carries for 16 yards, and an unnecessary roughness penalty on New England pushes New York to the Patriots’ 31-yard line already.

8:28 p.m. — It’s a three-and-out for New England after it picked up just one yard on the ground from Rhamondre Stevenson.

8:23 p.m. — The Patriots defense recovers from the first few plays. Deatrich Wise Jr. gets to Rodgers for a sack on 1st & 20, and that’s too much for New York to overcome. The Jets will punt.

8:20 p.m. — Aaron Rodgers finds WR Mike Williams, a veteran offseason addition who’s still been recovering from an injury, for a five-yard pick up on first down. WR Allen Lazard makes a catch for another 11 yards, and the Jets offense is moving well early.

8:17 p.m. — The Patriots kick off, and the Jets offense takes the field to begin the evening. They’re under way at MetLife Stadium.

7:51 p.m. — Aaron Rodgers is making his home debut for the Jets tonight.

7:09 p.m. — As for the Jets, they’ll be without LB C.J. Mosley against New England.

7:07 p.m. — About an hour out from kickoff, here’s a look at the Patriots’ inactive list tonight.
