Jets WR Garrett Wilson No. 72 on NFL Top 100
Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson has been named No. 72 in the NFL’s Top 100 Players of 2024, voted on by players around the league.
Wilson, the No. 10 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, is the only player in NFL history with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons to start his career, while catching passes from at least six quarterbacks. He’s also the first Jets wideout with consecutive 1,000-yard seasons since Keyshawn Johnson in 1998-99.
Wilson had 95 receptions last season for 1,042 yards and 3 touchdowns. In 2022, he totaled 83 receptions, 1,103 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns when he was named Offensive Rookie of the Year.
The Ohio State product will catch passes from four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers this season. Rodgers, who was ranked No. 92 on the Top 100 list, has recovered from his season-ending Achilles tendon tear in the first game of last season and has shown chemistry with the third-year wideout.
Rodgers, who combined for 238 receptions, 2,927 yards and 29 touchdowns in the 2020-21 seasons with All-Pro WR Davante Adams in Green Bay with Jets OC Nathaniel Hackett as their play-caller, said he sees some similarities with the way Wilson and Adams play the game.
“He’s got all the makings of a star receiver,” Rodgers said of Wilson. “We feel like if we can both stay healthy that we can accomplish a lot this year, but it’s going to be important we communicate.”
Wilson, who changed his jersey number from No. 17 to No. 5 this offseason (which he wore at OSU), is focused on team goals in Year 3.
“Winning, getting into the playoffs,” Wilson said about what his next steps. “I’m confident that we do that, everything will take care of itself. I’ve always kind of lived by that. Let’s focus on winning and the other stuff will shine through. We’ve got to win somehow, we’re going to score points. I’ll have something to do with it, we all will. I’m excited.”
