‘Josh Hart moment’ saves New York Knicks from embarrassing performance against Charlotte Hornets
The New York Knicks are hoping to make a serious run toward the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000.
The Knicks went on the road to take on the Charlotte Hornets after losing two of the last three games. They have been solid offensively in the last few games, but their defense has been poor.
On Friday, the Knicks were terrible offensively as they were struggling significantly against a Hornets team that was without point guard LaMelo Ball , who will gone for some time, and three key bench players.
The Knicks were getting ready to lose the embarrassing performance until one player had their big moment of the game.
What went wrong for the Knicks
The past few games have been tough for the Knicks defensively. In this game, the Knicks shot well in field goals (44.4%), but they had some struggles shooting the threes (37.5%) and at the free-throw line (78.5%).
Among their biggest problems was the Knicks turning over the ball 19 times, compared to the Hornets’ 14 turnovers, and the Hornets accounting for 14 offensive rebounds (out of 39 total rebounds).
Mikal Bridges and O.G. Anunoby, both starters, both had terrible performances combining for 16 points shooting 6-of-21 in field goals and 1-of-8 from the three-point arc and seven turnovers.
Karl-Anthony Towns had a good offensive game with the exception of six turnovers. Only guards Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart and Miles Bridges were the bright spots of the Knicks.
Hart has his big moment for Knicks
There were many Knicks fans who voiced their frustrations from the beginning of the game to the end. Among those angry Knicks fans, Sirius XM Radio host and NBA analyst Rob Perez put out a 10-minute rant about the many things about the Knicks against the Hornets. In the video, however, were a few bright spots, including guard Josh Hart.
“He outrebounds the entire city of Charlotte. He throws a full-court heave over his head, it’s a dime to Karl-Anthony Towns, who smokes the layup and it leads to a Brandon Miller dunk at the other end just a couple of seconds later.”
“One positive note, the Josh Hart moment of the game occurred at the 2:26 mark in the fourth quarter, anyone watching knew it would be the Josh Hart moment of the game.
“He soars in there for an offensive rebound after a Jalen Brunson missed three. 10 seconds later, that demon is still running around the floor, cutting, slashing, looking to create an opportunity that ultimately results in a bunny layup for him, it felt like in that moment, it felt it was the shot that the Knicks were never going to look back from.”
Hart finished the game scoring 13 points shooting 6-of-12 in field goals and accounting for 12 rebounds (four offensively), five assists, two steals and three turnovers.
He is a player who isn’t normally going to be the star of the game every time, but he is a player who is going to give full effort such as going for the offensive rebound, running around the court and playing tight defense every time. Without Hart, the Knicks would have lost to a short-handed and underwhelming Hornets team.
