Karl-Anthony Towns Finally Gets “Help” as Knicks Fans Celebrate James Dolan’s Move for 7’0 Giant
Karl-Anthony Towns‘ start to life in New York has been a smashing hit. But, for the Knicks, that’s not the ideal word to describe their form. The 3-2 record so far has failed to live up to the pre-season hype and there are some concerns among the fans. So to steady the house, the Knicks made a big move that probably a lot of people saw coming.
Shams Charania broke the news on social media stating, “The New York Knicks and two-way center Ariel Hukporti have agreed on a standard two-year NBA contract, sources tell ESPN.” The agreement reportedly includes a team option for the following season.

The German center debuted last month against the Celtics and has played in four games with the Knicks. In the 29 minutes played this season, he is averaging 1.8 rebounds and 1 block. Despite the underwhelming numbers, his overall gameplay has already won the hearts of the Knicks fans, and they are all-in with the idea of increased playing time for Hukporti. They also believe that the move will help KAT.
“Well deserved” – Knicks Fans react to James Dolan’s latest roster bolstering move
The Executive Chairman of the NY Knicks, James Dolan, has made some impressive moves that have satisfied the fans. First, he brought in Karl-Anthony Towns, followed by his backup, Ariel Hukporti, who received a warm reception from the fan base so far. “Well deserved he can back up KAT at the center position,” someone on Charania’s IG post wrote. With Mitchell Robinson out of the picture due to his ankle injury, Jericho Sims and Hukporti became his replacements. Hukporti’s skill set and near 7-foot height make him a valuable asset for the Knicks, who could come off the bench.

“Help has finally arrived for KAT. Hukporti is here,” wrote a fan on the Insider’s X post. Recently, KAT injured his wrist before Friday’s game and was listed as questionable for the clash against the Pistons. Although he played brilliantly in the game, having a solid backup could still benefit the franchise. So the Knicks fans are relieved that they acquired the Hukporti, considering that KAT would need rest at some point.

Many fans in the comment section believed Hukporti should be the Knicks’ preference over Jericho Sims. A fan stated, “Now can he take Sims minutes,” and others agreed. Sims has been associated with the franchise since 2021, frequently switching between the NBA team and its G League affiliate. Last season, the offensive center was given an average of 13 minutes on the hardwood, where he couldn’t impress with his 2 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. Fans now feel it’s time to hand over the responsibilities to the 22-year-old Hukporti, who could do a better job than Sims.

Another fan approved the signing by claiming, “Knicks building a solid frontcourt rotation! Excited to see how Hukporti fits in” along with a fire emoji. Hukporti has the potential to add depth to the frontcourt that could be crucial in KAT’s absence. So, that indeed makes it a fiery move.
Some fans have even urged Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau to give Hukporti more playing time. The young talent now has the opportunity to prove his worth and meet the expectations that fans have placed on him. The only thing left for Hukporti to do is grab that opportunity to make him a part of the Knicks rotation.
