Katerina Sniakova, Tomas Machac keep relationship ‘top secret’ after Olympic tennis gold win together

The best love story of the Olympics might have played out in the final of the mixed doubles tennis bracket.

Katerina Sniakova and Tomas Machac hugged and kissed upon winning gold for Czechia in the event on Friday night, a notable development because the two had, according to local media, broken up in July after dating for four years.

After the 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 tiebreaker victory for gold, however, their relationship status isn’t so clear.

Katerina Sniakova and Tomas Machac embraced upon winning gold for Czechia despite a recent breakup.

“That’s our personal life, so you don’t need to know that,” Siniakova told reporters, laughing, when asked whether the two were together after the match. “We like when you are confused.”

“This is top secret,” Machac added.

Siniakova, a doubles specialist, has won nine Grand Slams and two gold medals, the other coming in women’s doubles in Tokyo with Barbora Krejckova.

She won the French Open this June with Coco Gauff.

“We are such professionals that we broke up precisely so we could fully concentrate on this medal,” she said. “We succeeded and we will see what happens after that.”

It was Siniakova's second gold medal of her tennis career.

It was a joke.

“I always like to represent my country, like [in] the Davis Cup or especially [at] the Olympics,” Machac said. “For me, it’s something special. To achieve something like this is … I think my head right now is not getting it.

“I’m just really enjoying it. For me it’s special to achieve it with Kate because it’s something that is not usual.”

Siniakova later posted a picture of the two with their gold medals on Instagram, writing, “That was unreal. Thanks everyone for supporting us, so happy with the result we have achieved.”
