Kaun Banega Crorepati 16: Host Amitabh Bachchan shares a hilarious incident when he was mistaken for ‘Vijay Amritraj’ in New York while watching a Tennis match – Times of India

The latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 started with Sarita Rani, a housewife from Haryana, who displayed the power of knowledge and took home Rs 12,50,000 with her. After she made an exit, Amitabh Bachchan conducted yet another round of Fastest Finger First and Virendra Sharma and Premswaroop Singh Negi qualified for Jaldi 5. After an intense competition, Premswaroop from New Delhi secured his place on the hot seat. Originally from Uttarkashi, he now resides in the capital. A retired officer of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Premswaroop shared details about his career, including his responsibility for the Indo-Bhutan and Indo-Nepal borders. With 35 years of service, he retired six years ago and also had the honor of serving with the United Nations during his career.

The host asks Premswaroop about what kind of sports he plays and the latter reveals that he is a huge fan of Tennis and plays it now as well every morning. He reveals he has been a veteran Tennis champion in his force. He has even qualified for Quarterfinals, semifinals in the All India Police Meet.
Amitabh Bachchan shared a funny anecdote about an incident in New York when he was mistaken for tennis legend Vijay Amritraj. He shared, “Hum bhi ek baar New York mein the toh ek baar dekhne gaye the, toh ticket leke hum upar baithe the toh ek aadh joh bharitya upar the, woh unhone humein pehchaan liya aur woh aaye, aur hello sir, so nice to see you, this and that and can we want to have an autograph, ek aadh humne de diya. Idhar humare daaye aur baaye tarf do Americal mahilayein baithi thi. Aur thodi der baad unhone humari taraf dekha baar baar, humko laga pata nahi kyu dekh rahi hain, phir humein kaha… It is such a pleasure to meet you ‘Vijay Amritraj’.”
(“Once, I was in New York watching a tennis match. I had bought a ticket and was seated in the upper section. A few Indians recognized me and came over, greeting me warmly and asking for autographs. I signed a couple for them. On my left and right, two American women were seated. After a while, they kept glancing at me, and I wondered why. Finally, one of them said, ‘It is such a pleasure to meet you, Vijay Amritraj.’” The story left everyone in splits!)
This revelation left everyone in splits of laughter including host Amitabh Bachchan. He further added, “Sir unko lega ki ek toh ye bhartiya hai Vijay Amritraj aur ek toh humara height hai joh milti julti hai. Aur desi log aake autograph le rahe hain, toh ye Tennis player he hoga. Phir humne unko bola hum tennis player nahi, aap he ki tarah darshanatri hain joh khel dekhne aaye hain. Aage nahi bataya humne.”

(“They must have thought I was Vijay Amritraj because I’m Indian, and our heights are somewhat similar. Plus, when they saw other Indians coming up to me for autographs, they assumed I must be a tennis player. I clarified to them that I wasn’t a tennis player but just a spectator, like them, here to enjoy the match. I didn’t explain any further.” His humorous recount had everyone laughing!)

The host says, “Aap kehna chah rahe the kush hain, ke chalo samay khatam hua ghar jaayen. Ye joh aadmi hai (referring to himself) subah se chilla raha hai usse humko mukti milegi and a lady from the audience shouts they are ready to spend the entire time with him. Mr Bachchan thanks and smiles at her.
