Kendrick Perkins dubs Knicks-76ers NBA series ‘one of the best’ in recent years
ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins is desperate for more drama as the New York Knicks face off with the Philadelphia 76ers.
The former NBA star has branded the nailbiting first-round playoff series “one of the best” he’s seen in recent years.
Perkins joined the NBA Today panel on Wednesday to discuss the Sixers‘ incredible comeback win in Game 5.
Philadelphia trailed by 6 points with just 28 seconds left at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday.
A win for the Knicks would have sent them through to the Conference semifinals.
But Tyrese Maxey sunk a stunning three-point attempt from the midcourt logo to force OT in front of a celeb-packed crowd.
The Sixers went on to take Game 5 112-106, with the series returning to Philly on Thursday.
“This has been one of the best playoff series I’ve seen in the last 2-3 years,” Perkins claimed during Wednesday’s ESPN broadcast.
“There are three words to describe this series – blood, sweat, and tears.
“If you have a single competitive bone in your body, you should love watching the Knicks and Philadelphia play right now.”
Perkins went on to praise the players’ winning mentality in Game 5, where there were 16 lead changes.
“Philly fans are hostile, Knicks fans are hostile,” he continued.
“And you’ve got the head of the snakes on both sides of the ball going at it.”
“He’s right, these are two of the better teams in the east and we get to see them battle it out in the first round,” replied one fan on X.
“Speaking facts about that honestly,” agreed another.
“Wait till you see Nuggets/Timberwolves. Series is going to be FIRE,” said a third.
“He’s right – this should honestly be a second-round matchup,” commented a fourth.
Inside the NBA’s future?
INSIDE the NBA’s run on TNT Sports is in doubt due to the NBA’s broadcasting deals.
The Emmy-winning sports show is a fan favorite thanks to the likes of Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley.
But TNT’s broadcast deal with the NBA is up after next season and NBC are said to be lining up a bid to take those rights.
If TNT loses their NBA package, it raises questions over the popular Inside the NBA.
One solution could be to recreate the show on another network which snaps up the NBA rights.
Tip-off in Game 6 at the Wells Fargo Center is at 9 pm ET on Thursday.
And the late start time has not gone down well with fans on the East Coast.
The game is starting later than usual due to a scheduling clash with the Milwaukee Bucks-Indiana Pacers series.
“Adam Silver should be impeached for scheduling Thursday’s Knicks-Sixers game at 9 PM,” fumed one NBA fan on X.
“The Knicks/Sixers game starting at 9pm on Thursday is an absolutely diabolical move from Adam Silver. The only way I get any sleep that night is a blowout win for the Knicks,” raged another.
