Kevin Roberts’ 2025 wish: Upswing in fortunes for the football Giants

I don’t normally wish for something that relates to the professional or college sports teams that I root for, but this year will be an exception.

If you look up “incompetence,” “dumpster fire” or “disaster” in an online dictionary, you will see the logo for the New York football Giants. This team, which can’t get out of its own way, just set a record for franchise futility not previously seen even during the worst of times. When the Giants were blown out, 34-7, by the Atlanta Falcons on Dec. 22, it marked their 10th straight loss. That’s a franchise record.

Head coach Brian Daboll, according to an article by Dan Duggan of The Athletic, said “not good enough” nine times during his postgame press conference. Repeat that in your best Ed Rooney voice, please. Nine times.

Too bad he didn’t say it a 10th time since it would have matched the record that his team had just set on the field. Not good enough is something that fans of the Giants have had to live with for a long time. If you leave out the outlier playoff teams of 2016 (11-5) and 2022 (9-7-1), these are the regular season records since the last Super Bowl winner in 2011: 9-7, 7-9, 6-10, 6-10, 3-13, 5-11, 4-12, 6-10, 3-13, 5-11, 4-12, 6-10, 4-13 and 6-11. And don’t forget this … no, go ahead and forget this season.

My wish for 2025 is for the Giants to no longer be the laughingstock of the NFL. Whatever it takes – fire whoever needs to be fired, release whoever needs to be released, trade whoever needs to be traded – 2025 needs to be a better year than 2024. Please.
