Khalistani bid to derail PM Modi’s New York event at Nassau Coliseum foiled by NYPD, one suspect arrested

Police in Nassau County, New York, arrested a Khalistani protester and prevented a group from breaching the designated “Free Speech Zone” during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s community event at Nassau Coliseum, according to Canada’s Media Bezirgan. The incident occurred when PM Modi was addressing Indian-Americans, discussing governmental steps to make India a world leader and emphasising the strengthening of ties between India and the United States.

Law enforcement also removed provocative propaganda from near the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. This included banners depicting crosshairs aimed at PM Modi’s face, which were associated with the Khalistani group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ).

According to sources who spoke to CNN-News18, the propaganda was intended to demonstrate opposition towards the government. They noted that the violations of designated zones are particularly concerning when foreign leaders visit.

The sources highlighted that only a small number of Sikhs are involved with Khalistanis. They mentioned, “Khalistanis are trying to influence the US government by projecting that they are a minority who are also a strong voting bloc.”
