King Charles and Queen Camilla rushed to safety during security scare

King Charles and Queen Camilla were rushed out of a royal engagement on Monday following a security scare.

The monarch, 75, and his wife, 76, were visiting Jersey during their two-day tour of the Channel Islands when suddenly their outing was cut short over safety concerns.

The pair were in the middle of a conversation with a local business owner when suddenly they ushered into the nearby Pomme d’Or hotel by their security team.

Personal protection officers subtly signaled to their team that the royals were to immediately leave the premises.

The perceived threat is believed to have been a drone, however reports remain unconfirmed.

It’s understood that members of the public were unaware of any drama.

The Post has reached out to Buckingham Palace for comment.

Matt Taylor, founder of Jersey Sea Salt, was speaking to the King when their conversation was abruptly cut short.

“He stopped at the stall and said ‘Ooh sea salt’ and I said ‘Come and have a chat, Sir.’ Then his security appeared and grabbed me and said ‘He has to go, now,’” Taylor told the Telegraph.

“He didn’t seem panicked but he was quite stern. They just ushered him out. It’s a shame as he’d stopped to chat to us of his own accord.”

It’s understood that every precaution was taken after the couple’s security team discovered a “small issue of concern.”

A full background check was carried out and the King and Queen resumed their engagement shortly after it was safe for them to do so.

The false alarm came just days after a would-be assassin shot at former President Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania campaign rally over the weekend.

A sniper had managed to climb onto the roof of a manufacturing plant 130 yards away from where Trump was speaking and opened fire on the Republican nominee.

Trump was hit in the ear, two attendees were critically injured and one was killed by the would-be assassin. Secret Service agents killed the gunman.

Former BBC Royal Correspondent Michael Cole told GB News there was a “heightened sense of security concern” for the King and Queen following Trump’s harrowing ordeal.

“I’m sure there’s a sort of heightened sense of security concern because of events in America, which we know about from Saturday night,” he told the outlet.

“But what stands out for me is the coolness of the Queen. She was eating an ice cream at the time, one of her aides whispered in her ear that there was a security concern, and she was taken away with the King to a nearby hotel.”

“She continued eating her ice cream, so rather like Drake before the Armada, she concentrated on the important things first,” he added.
