Knicks mock draft: Who experts are predicting the Knicks will take in the first round | Sporting News

The 2024 NBA Draft is a day away, and draft rumors are heating up.

The New York Knicks own the 24th, 25th, and 38th picks in the draft. Although they are exploring trade scenarios with those picks, it seems like the Knicks will make at least one selection to add some youth and depth to their roster. In recent years, the Knicks have shown an ability to find good players late in the draft.

To get a better feel for what the Knicks might do, we consulted seven experts’ mock drafts, looking only at the first round.

The mock drafts came from The Sporting News’ Kyle Irving, ESPN’s Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo, The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie, The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor, Yahoo’s Krysten Peek, Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Wasserman, and SNY’s Ian Begley.

Here’s who the experts think the Knicks will draft in the first round:

The Sporting News:

No. 24: Terrence Shannon Jr., G/F, Illinois

No. 25: Ryan Dunn, F, Virginia

ESPN:

No. 24: Isaiah Collier, G, USC

No. 25: Terrence Shannon Jr., G/F, Illinois

The Ringer:

Yahoo:

No. 25: DaRon Holmes II, F/C, Dayton

Bleacher Report:

No. 25: DaRon Holmes II, F/C, Dayton

SNY:

No. 24: Baylor Scheierman, F, Creighton

No. 25: Terrence Shannon Jr., G/F, Illinois

The Athletic:

Projects the Knicks trading No. 25 to No. 22

No. 22: Tyler Kolek, G, Marquette

No. 24: Ryan Dunn, F, Virgina

The consensus picks

The two players that mock drafts have the Knicks selecting mot frequently are Ryan Dunn and Terrence Shannon Jr.

Dunn is considered the best defender in the draft, capable of defending multiple positions and putting up big steals and blocks numbers. However, his offense is a big question mark, as he shot just 20% from three his sophomore year and at times lacked aggressiveness.

Shannon, meanwhile, appears to be a riser. Shannon was recently found not guilty of felony rape and aggravated sexual assault, which has allowed him to work out for teams. Turning 24 in July, he’s one of the oldest players in the draft. He’s considered a good scorer, with ESPN noting that his “toughness and motor” are traits the Knicks might value.

The NBA Draft begins on Wednesday, June 26.
