The New York Knicks are handicapped from making a blockbuster deal this winter, but that shouldn’t stop them from acquiring some center depth before the deadline.
New York might want to take a hard look at a former Boston Celtics big man who promises to be available, according to a new report from Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz.
Swartz said on Monday that New Orleans Pelicans center/power forward Daniel Theis would be a nice addition for the Knicks as they look to create quality backup minutes behind Karl-Anthony Towns.
“Don’t expect any major in-season trades from the New York Knicks after they gave up six first-round picks in trades to acquire Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges this past offseason,” Swartz said.
“Instead, stabilizing the backup center spot is more important, as Mitchell Robinson and Precious Achiuwa have both missed the entire season thus far due to injuries.”
“Theis … (is) capable of handling rotation minutes behind Karl-Anthony Towns.”
Since entering the NBA in 2017, the 32-year-old Theis, currently in New Orleans, has spent time with the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, and LA Clippers, in addition to his two stints with the Celtics (2017-2021 and 2022).
