Knicks star Jalen Brunson makes it clear what he needs to do to win MVP award

NEW York Knicks All-Star point guard Jalen Brunson knows what he needs to do to be an MVP in the league.

The 28-year-old Knicks captain opened up on his mission to take his game to the next level during an exclusive interview with The U.S. Sun.

Brunson took his game to new heights last season, averaging a career-high 28.7 points and 6.7 assists – both career-highs.

He made the All-Star game for the first time and was even fifth in MVP voting.

Brunson helped the Knicks experience one of their best regular seasons in franchise history and win a playoff round over the Philadelphia 76ers before their second-round elimination to the Indiana Pacers.

However, there is still room for improvement according to Brunson, who told The U.S. Sun in an interview, thanks to the furniture company Lovesac, that being “consistent” can help the Knicks, and especially himself.

“I think, most importantly, is how more consistent can I be?” Brunson said on Tuesday, September 17.

“I just want to be the most complete and consistent basketball player that I can be.

“That’s what I was striving for [during] the summer. That’s just my goal.

“The more consistent I am, the better I am and the better the team can be.

“[I’m] just making sure I make myself the best basketball player I can be every time I step on the court.”

Brunson completing his personal goal would be scary for the rest of the league.

He recorded 28 or more points in 41 of his 77 games played.

Brunson continued to display his three-point shooting in 2023-24, posting his second back-to-back campaign with over 40 percent in that area.

However, he did struggle in the playoffs from deep, shooting 31 percent from three.

Brunson still managed to average 32.4 points per game throughout the playoffs despite defenses throwing double-teams at him left and right.

During the offseason, he received a four-year, $156 million extension this summer.

The deal helped the Knicks facilitate a trade with the Brooklyn Nets that helped them receive the services of star Mikal Bridges, who played alongside Brunson during their days at Villanova where they won two NCAA titles.

New York then chose Brunson to be the franchise’s 36th captain in its history.

The soon-to-be seven-year veteran has stayed in shape throughout the offseason after undergoing surgery to repair the broken hand he suffered in Game 7 against the Indiana Pacers.

Brunson has felt “comfortable” relaxing on his Lovesac Sactionals coach and watching the NFL, mainly his Philadelphia Eagles, in his basement.

He will be on a mission to help the Knicks win its first NBA title since 1973.
