Knicks star says Yankees have modern-day Ted Williams
New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns is a big fan of Yankees slugger Juan Soto.
The New Jersey native even sported a Yankees hat in a postgame interview after the Knicks’ season-opening loss to the Celtics in Boston on Tuesday.
“Juan Soto in my opinion is one of the greatest Dominican talents for baseball we’ve ever seen,” Towns, who played for the Dominican Republic in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, said via SNY.
“He’s one of those guys when I get to watch from afar as a fan, even when he wasn’t on the Yankees, just to see the discipline he has at the plate, the power he possesses and the way that he commands the plate and covers the plate. He does things that the greats of the MLB have done and I think in a way… the Ted Williams of our time.”
Soto was one of several Knicks that showed support for the Yankees ahead of the World Series, the New York Post reported.
Knicks star Josh Hart is the great nephew of former Yankees catcher Elston Howard, the Yankees’ first Black player. Hart got to visit Howard’s retired No. 32 plaque in Monument Park before throwing out a first pitch at Yankee Stadium in September.
“I’m hoping they win it,” Hart said via the New York Post. “Unfortunately, I don’t think I’m going to get to go to any games with us being out on that road trip [next week]. … But super excited, man, for them as players, excited for the city, and I’ll be watching and supporting.”
