Knicks vs 76ers Prediction, Odds and Picks | Pickswise

The NBA Cup arrives for its second season on Tuesday, and one of the marquee matchups of the first day of group stage play features the New York Knicks traveling to Philadelphia to take on the 76ers. Both of these teams were expected to be among the league’s best after they made splashes with their offseason moves, but neither side is off to a great start through these first few weeks. The new-look Knicks have been working through incorporating a number of new pieces and rotation players into their team, so it’s understandable that they haven’t been perfect through the first 10 games. With that said, the results have still been pretty concerning for what has been an inconsistent group thus far, especially when it comes to closing out games against playoff teams in the 4th quarter (Sunday’s loss to Indiana comes to mind). Tuesday’s game against Philadelphia will be a good test to see how this Knicks team matches up against a fellow Eastern Conference team that’s looking to make a deep playoff run.

As for the hosts, the Sixers currently sit at 2-7 and struggled mightily without Joel Embiid in the fold. However, Embiid is set to make his return from injury on Tuesday, which raises the offensive ceiling considerably for Philadelphia, particularly in this matchup. The Knicks have had a lot of trouble protecting the paint this season, as Karl-Anthony Towns and company are 29th in the league in defending at the rim, while also struggling to defend the 3-point line. That spells trouble against a Sixers side that should look to play through Embiid when he’s on the floor, which should create higher percentage scoring opportunities for the likes of Paul George, Jared McCain and others on the perimeter. On the other side of the ball, the Sixers’ defense is just 20th in defensive rating this season, and they’ll be going up against a Knicks team that is second in offensive rating and should look to create mismatches with Jalen Brunson and Towns on the perimeter. Even though these teams were strong on defense a season ago, this particular game should have plenty of points, so let’s take the over in Philadelphia.
