Latest Giants 2024 roster cuts: Big Blue moves on from Isaiah Hodgins, Allen Robinson, Darnay Holmes, among others
The Giants are officially off and running on cutdown day.
As they look to get the roster down to 53 ahead of Tuesday’s 4 p.m. deadline, New York has placed wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins on waivers, according to numerous reports.
Big Blue originally claimed Hodgins off waivers two seasons ago and he came in and was an immediate contributor, hauling in 33 receptions for 351 yards and four touchdowns down the stretch.
He remained productive last season but saw his role decrease a bit with younger talent being added to the mix, as he started just nine games and was targeted 33 times.
He was expected to take on even less of a role this season after New York selected star wideout Malik Nabers with the sixth overall pick and brought back veteran Darius Slayton on a one-year deal.
Hodgins has been working with the second-team offense throughout camp, and when the rest of the starters remained sidelined for this weekend’s preseason finale, he was in action.
That likely signaled the end of his run in the Big Apple, and now just two days later, he’s officially been cut as a roster casualty and will have to find himself a new home elsewhere.
Elsewhere on the receiver front, veteran Allen Robinson has reportedly been released. Robinson, signed by the Giants in May, seemed to have a shot at sticking on the roster as a veteran presence for an otherwise young group, but the Penn State product apparently didn’t do enough in camp to make the team.
CB Darnay Holmes, LB Darrian Beavers, and RB Dante Miller have also been cut as numerous reports indicated Tuesday morning.
Holmes was a fourth-round pick just a few seasons ago, but he’s struggled to get acclimated to the pro game, recording the 14th most penalties among defensive backs since 2020.
Miller is a bit of a surprise as he showed some positives throughout training camp, but the hope is that he’ll be able to end up back with the organization on the practice squad.
Beavers is also a surprise addition, as he showed a ton of potential as a sixth-round pick two seasons ago, but he was never quite able to get back to 100 percent after tearing his ACL in 2022.
