Mary Baldwin hires Brad Rideout as new women’s basketball coach
STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) – Mary Baldwin University has hired Bradley Rideout as the head coach of its Fighting Squirrels women’s basketball program.
Rideout comes to MBU from Paul Smith’s College in Paul Smith’s, New York, where he was the women’s team head coach for three years and the interim head coach for the men’s team for two years.
“I want to thank Dr. Jeffery Stein, Athletic Director Tom Byrnes, Associate Athletic Director Christy Shelton and the search committee for what I feel is a great opportunity,” Rideout said. “My family and I are truly grateful to become part of the Mary Baldwin University community.”
According to an MBU press release, “Rideout inherits a program that was suspended by the University for the 2024-25 season because the roster included only a handful of players after starting each of the past two years with just nine players. His goal is to return the program to the competitive levels of the 2019-22 seasons, when the Fighting Squirrels qualified for the conference playoffs four straight seasons.”
MBU athletic director Tom Byrnes said Rideout has the “enthusiasm and experience” to achieve these goals.
Rideout’s previous experience also includes head women’s basketball coach at Green Mountain College in Vermont and other positions at Messiah College and Shippensburg University, as well as various high schools earlier in his career.
