Meet the Giants DT nicknamed Baby Bison who is out to prove critics wrong
ELIJAH CHATMAN is an undersized defensive tackle with a GIANT chip on his shoulder.
The former Southern Methodist University star, 23, went undrafted in 2023.
And after failing to pick up a team, he has joined the New York Giants‘ 90-man training camp roster.
Chatman played 56 games as a four-year starter in college.
He had 148 total tackles, 13.5 sacks, 33 tackles for loss and five fumble recoveries – even returning one for a touchdown.
At 6-foot and 278 pounds, he is small for a defensive lineman but boats incredible strength.
That explains his nickname Baby Bison.
His agency confirmed the news on social media.
“Delayed but definitely not Denied!” OSMG posted.
“Congratulations to our client @brochiaeli on signing with the @nygiants after a successful Rookie Minicamp!

“The Giants just got themselves a “Certified Bison”💪🏾! Let’s go Elijah!”
“Well done young man…welcome,” posted one fan.
“His film looks good,” added another.
Chatman impressed at SMU’s pro day with a 4.81-second 40-yard dash and 32 reps on the bench.
He made Bruce Feldman’s Freaks List and the analyst called him “pound-for-pound, one of the strongest people in college football.”
The Giants had 61 players trying out alongside their 14 draft picks at rookie minicamp.
Head coach Brian Daboll explained his process for making sure he does not miss a diamond in the rough.
What we know already
ONLY one matchup has been confirmed for the 2024 NFL regular season so far.
That is the Week 1 clash between the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers on Friday, September 6.
The game is being played at Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and will be streamed live on Peacock across the United States.
We also know the identity of the home teams for the three games in London, England, and one in Munich, Germany.
The Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings will host games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, while the other London home team will be the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium.
The Carolina Panthers are also confirmed for the game at Munich’s Allianz Arena.
“You don’t want anybody to slip through the cracks, so you bring as many people as you can in and give them an opportunity,” he said.
“Again maybe you sign one, maybe you sign two or you don’t sign any.
“But I think it’s good for those guys to get an opportunity and for us to get eyes on them doing some of our stuff.
“And if someone we think is worth bringing up and signing, that’s what we’ll do.”
It looks like Chatman did enough to earn himself a shot in training camp.
Now he must use the platform to prove the NFL execs got it wrong when they skipped his name in the draft.
He will hope to prove it is not the size of the bison in the fight but the size of the fight in the bison.
