Microsoft outage led to a major crisis across multiple industries on Friday with more than 300 flights being delayed and more than 100 flights being cancelled so far at the three major airports in the New York City area — JFK, LaGuardia and Newark Liberty in New Jersey, according to airline tracker Flight Aware.

The city’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority said regional train and bus service hasn’t been affected but advised travellers not to head to the airport unless their flight status is confirmed.

Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike said that the issue believed to be behind the outage was not a security incident or cyberattack.

At least 110,000 scheduled commercial flights today, as per Cirium, an aviation analytics company that shared preliminary data with CNN on Friday about the extent of the disruption. As of 3.30 pm IST, there were 1,390 canceled flights globally. That figure is growing, the report said.

While major U.S. airlines – American Airlines (AAL.O), Delta Airlines (DAL.N), and United Airlines (UAL.O),- grounded flights, other carriers and airports around the world reported delays and disruptions early on Friday, according to the Reuters report.

More than 500 flights set to take off from the US were canceled, as per the reported data around 6 am ET. In Germany, 4,386 flights are scheduled to take off, carrying up to 791,000 passengers. So far, 92 flights have been cancelled. From New Delhi, more than 100 flights were cancelled.

In France, 3,630 flights are scheduled to take off, with up to 666,000 passengers. So far, 28 flights have been canceled.

In India, 3,652 flights are set to take off. Some 350 flights have been canceled so far. IndiGo air carrier was the worst hit among all, followed by SpiceJet.

In Canada, of the 3,549 scheduled flights, 21 have been cancelled.

The outage appears to be affecting Windows PCs globally. Users on the subreddit for cyber security firm Crowdstrike reported issues in India, the United States and New Zealand.
