Last season, Washington Freedom reached the Qualifier stage but were eliminated by the eventual champions, MI New York. As they kick off their new campaign against the same formidable team, Washington is eager for revenge. The franchise has revamped its squad, particularly with international stars, including the prominent Australian trio of Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, and Travis Head. 

Their lineup is further bolstered by Akeal Hosein, Marco Jansen, Rachin Ravindra, USA’s Saurabh Netravalkar and Andries Gous, and New Zealand’s pace ace Lockie Ferguson. This will be their first game of the season, and Washington hopes to start strong with a victory against the reigning champions.

After bowling out the Orcas for 108 in 19.1 overs, MI chased down the target with over five overs to spare. While MI’s top-order might not appear as menacing, their middle-order, featuring Nicholas Pooran, Tim David, and Kieron Pollard, can cause significant damage. 

Their bowling attack is formidable, boasting two of the best T20 bowlers in Rashid Khan and Trent Boult. Boult manages the powerplay effectively, and Anrich Nortje enforces pressure during the middle overs. MI’s strength lies in their bowling, and their recent performance showcased their ability to dismantle any batting lineup. However, they face a stern test against Washington’s star-studded batting order.
