Moving on: Seahawks ready for home clash with New York Giants

The first loss always stings but Mike Macdonald’s Seahawks now have one goal: Making sure one loss doesn’t turn into a losing streak as the team tries to get back on track with Sunday’s home tilt with the New York Giants.

“Every day’s approach is going to be the same expectation. We’re trying to improve, we’re trying to take the next step,” Macdonald said Wednesday. “Let’s look at what happened through an impartial eye so we can attack the problems and let’s move forward. Let’s keep it positive.”

“Man, there’s a lot of good stuff on tape,” Macdonald added. “A lot of stuff we obviously need to fix and make right, but that’s the case anytime we step foot out there and toe the line, so that’ll be the same mentality.”

Macdonald gave the Hawks players a day to rest on Tuesday after the late game in Detroit, in addition to a slightly later start to practice Wednesday in hopes of resting and recuperating—but also putting that tough loss behind them.

One way to do that, as Macdonald mentioned, is to look at the positives.

Despite falling down 14-0 early, the Seahawks kept it a pretty close matchup.

“Our guys could’ve easily given up on all three phases and they didn’t. You can see it in their eyes, and I think it’s a shout-out to the men we have in our locker room and the resilience they have,” Macdonald said about what he took away from how his team played in Detroit. “I told [the team] after the game, that’s the mentality and the spirit that we want on our football team that we’re going to need over the long haul.”

“Again, we’re four weeks in here. This is going to be a long season. We’re going to face more adversity at some point,” Macdonald added. “If we have that mentality, that gives us a chance to push through in those times. So, definitely something to be proud of, a silver lining coming out of the game.”

The Seahawks head into Sunday’s matchup as a six-point favorite, and they’ve beaten the Giants in each of the last two seasons. Last year on Monday Night Football, Devon Witherspoon had a fantastic game and returned an interception for a touchdown.

What’s interesting about this game is the breakout year Geno Smith is enjoying. Smith leads the NFL in pass yards per game (280) and his play has the Seahawks at fifth overall in total yards.

This is a testament to the offense clicking under new coordinator Ryan Grubb. In a game like we saw on Monday, where Geno threw the ball 53 times to try and erase the deficit (which they almost did), it’s a sign that this team can fight its way out of almost any situation.

The Giants are 1-3 on the season with the team’s lone win coming against an underachieving Browns and sandwiched between close losses to the Commanders and Cowboys.
