Myles Garrett temporarily exits Cleveland Browns game vs. New York Giants with injury

(This story has been updated with new information.)

CLEVELAND — Myles Garrett momentarily left Sunday’s 21-15 Browns loss against the New York Giants.

Garrett remained down on his hands and knees after nearly getting to Giants quarterback Daniel Jones on a rush off the right side of the Browns defensive line with just over 10 minutes remaining. He wasn’t able to get to Jones, who scrambled for 5 on the third-down play.

The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year spent the entirety of the Browns’ subsequent offensive possession in the medical tent. He did come back into the game with 6:10 remaining and played the majority of defensive snaps the rest of the game.

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said Garrett was going to undergo a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) test Monday. Garrett, who finished with one solo tackle and three quarterback hits in the loss, limped up to the podium for his postgame press conference.

“A whole lot of things going on, but like I said before, it’s part of the game,” Garrett said afterwards. “I’m not going to make excuses, excuses don’t win this game. So I’m going to continue to do recovery, my treatment, everything that I’m required and more, and be out there and be the player that we need.”

Garrett has been battling issues with his feet since the start of the season. He indicated before the Giants game that it could have something to do with the double foot surgeries he underwent while as a pre-teen to add arches and relieve tension in a tight tendon.

The foot issues have led Garrett to seeing minimal, if any, practice time during the week leading up to games. However, outside of a fewer number of snaps, it hasn’t impacted his play on the field.

Garrett had strip sacks of both Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence over the first two games. That doesn’t all take into account the general pressure — literally or figuratively — he puts on opposing quarterbacks and offenses just by his presence on the field.
