Nabers’ Impressive Stats Tarnished by Fourth-Down Drop in Giants’ 0-2 Start | NFL News – Times of India

Rookie receiver Malik Nabers really shined in Week 2, but a key dropped pass hurt the New York Giants and probably caused their 21-18 loss to the Washington Commanders. At a charity event on Tuesday, he said the mistake was his fault.

“It’s hard to forget something like that,” Nabers told Ryan Dunleavy from the New York Post. “Looking back, I feel like part of the loss is on me.But I’ll keep going and get better. I won’t drop that pass again.”
The Giants have lost both of their opening games and have tough matches ahead. Starting with a road game against Cleveland on Sunday, things could get worse if the team doesn’t find a way to improve.
In the last moments of the game, New York had no way to kick a field goal because their kicker Graham Gano got injured. With the score stuck at 18, on fourth-and-4 from the Washington 22-yard line and just over two minutes left, quarterback Daniel Jones kept the play alive. He found Nabers open on the sideline for what looked like an easy first down. But Nabers missed the catch, and the Giants had to give up the ball. Washington then went 65 yards and kicked the winning field goal.
The drop took away from what had been a really good game for Nabers. He had 127 yards and a touchdown from 10 catches. He joined Giants legend Odell Beckham Jr. as one of only two Giants rookies to grab more than 10 catches for over 125 yards and 1 touchdown in one game. Nabers also holds the most receiving yards by a top-10 pick in his first two games since the common draft era started.
Even though the Giants lost and Nabers dropped that pass, he said the locker room stays positive. “Challenges are going to come, but it’s about how you answer them,” he said, according to the NFL. He thought back to other parts of the game, admitting he probably should have tried harder, like when he had a shot at recovering a fumble.
If things don’t change quickly for the Giants, tougher days likely lie ahead for Nabers and his teammates.
