Washington Wizards free agent Landry Shamet is reportedly getting interest from a handful of teams this offseason.
Per HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves and New York Knicks have all shown interest in the guard. Scotto noted that the Wizards are also still in play.
“Free agent guard Landry Shamet has received exploratory interest from the Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, and New York Knicks, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto wrote. “A possible return to the Washington Wizards also hasn’t been ruled out, HoopsHype has learned.”
Shamet is coming off a four-year, $42.5 million rookie extension he signed with the Phoenix Suns, and the Wizards recently declined his $11 million option for the 2024-25 season.
Shamet missed much of the 2023-24 season while dealing with injuries and played just 46 games, averaging 7.1 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game off the bench. Shamet also played just 40 games during the 2022-23 season due to injuries.
While he likely won’t be the difference in competing for a championship, Shamet could be a much-needed spark off the bench for several teams. He’s a career 38.4 percent three-point shooter and has shot as well as 45 percent from deep in his career.
All of the teams interested in Shamet are on the brink of being Finals contenders, and adding a solid shooter to come off the bench could help them get closer to their championship goal. Should he stay with the Wizards, he could be a veteran presence for the young team as they continue their rebuild.
