New York bans the sale of caffeine-infused cannabis; what are they? – Times of India

It’s time to put a stopper to the alluring daydream of ‘wake and bake’! As per the New York Post, State regulators have banned the distribution of cannabis pills that are also infused with caffeine — a combo that’s been a popular pick-me-up for fitness buffs and office professionals.
The New York Office of Cannabis Management issued a stop order to Hudson Cannabis, an upstate marijuana/hemp farmer and processor that provides the key ingredients for the related cannabis brand 1906. State regulators have banned the distribution of cannabis pills that are also infused with caffeine.

What is caffeine-infused cannabis?

The mixture of cannabis and caffeine is a typical infusion, sometimes referred to as the “Seattle Speedball.” Cannabis-and-coffee enthusiasts probably coined this term because of the more energizing, enjoyable, and productive emotions they report experiencing when fusing the substances.

Why caffeine-infused cannabis gives you a ‘great high’?

Caffeine, although works as a stimulant, doesn’t energise you directly. Rather it works to block the neurotransmitters that make you feel sleepy. The caffeine high felt from drinking coffee comes from adrenaline and cortisol running through your body, which provides you with stamina and euphoria. On the other hand, cannabis is a substance that can be a stimulant or a depressant. The effects of weed vary, but many people say the buzz makes them mellow or relaxed. How you might feel depends on which strain or product you use. Often, cultivars or products that fall into the category of sativa might help induce liveliness and happiness. More specifically, the medley of cannabinoids and terpenes of the strain can affect how you feel.

Research says…

A 2012 study listed on National Library of Medicine found that rats had a better memory with weed or caffeine separately, and it was worse when the rats consumed cannabis and caffeine together. This outcome suggests that combining the two might prove counterproductive to enhancing our brain functioning abilities.
A 2014 study listed on National Library of Medicine looked at squirrel monkeys who had been given THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the compound in marijuana that produces the high. The monkeys had the option to keep receiving more THC. Researchers then gave them different doses of MSX-3, which produces effects similar to those of caffeine. When given low doses of MSX-3, the monkeys gave themselves less THC. But at high doses, the monkeys gave themselves more THC. This suggests that low levels of caffeine may enhance your high so you don’t use as much. However, high levels of caffeine could affect your high in the opposite way, leading you to use more marijuana.
A 2018 study listed on National Library of Medicine indicated coffee might make it more difficult for you to relax on weed.

Does caffeine-infused cannabis affect your health?

It’s unclear if mixing caffeine and marijuana has any long-term effects. However, an animal study found that consuming THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) with large amounts of a substance that mimics the effects of caffeine may minimize marijuana’s effects. This might lead you to use more marijuana than you usually would.
