New York Giants: 1 Major Concern Entering NFL Training Camp – Gridiron Heroics
The New York Giants had one of the worst offenses in the NFL a season ago. A lot of those struggles had to do with a horrendous offensive line and poor quarterback play. New York had to start three different quarterbacks last season. Daniel Jones, Tyrod Taylor, and Tommy DeVito all started for the New York Giants a season ago.
Jones and Taylor were injured at one point a season ago. DeVito became a fan favorite at one point and won three games that he started. The Giants hope things will be different in the 2024 season. New York can’t be any worse than they what they were offensively last season.
The New York Giants will also be featured on Hard Knocks starting next week with an offseason edition. There will be a lot of storylines to watch for when the show comes out.
The New York Giants May Not Have Done Enough To Fix the Offensive Line This Offseason
In the 2024 NFL Draft, the Giants did not draft a single offensive lineman. They addressed some of the offensive line woes from a season ago by signing free agents and also making a change with the offensive line coach.
Bobby Johnson is no longer the offensive line coach and Carmen Bricillo is the new offensive line coach this season. Bricillo was the Las Vegas Raiders offensive line coach last season.
The Athletic Staff wrote about each NFL team having a major concern entering training camp. Charlotte Carroll wrote about the one major concern for the New York Giants entering training camp:
“Did they improve enough on the offensive line?
You could have asked the same question of the Giants for the past decade, and each season, the answer has remained no. The Giants hope they finally got it right this year, particularly after investing in free agents Jon Runyan Jr. and Jermaine Eluemunor to fortify the unit. Throughout the spring, Runyan lined up at right guard. Eluemunor assumed the left guard spot, which should create a formidable tandem with left tackle Andrew Thomas, assuming Evan Neal remains at right tackle. But that’s a big assumption. Will Neal play well enough to keep his job? He has been rehabbing after undergoing surgery in January to repair a small fracture in his ankle. The Giants can’t afford another season wrecked by poor offensive line play.”
Evan Neal missed time last season for the New York Giants because of injury. If he can not stay healthy again this season, then it appears as if Neal is a bust. He was the seventh-overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Alabama.
Fans already think he is a bust, but there might be time for him to turn it around since he is only 23 years old but will turn 24 years old on 9/19.
Yodny Casjuste is projected to be the backup right tackle on the New York Giants roster. That will be the biggest question mark entering training camp this season.
