New York Giants at Washington Commanders: Predictions, picks and odds for NFL Week 2 game
LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier talks Commanders rookie QB Jayden Daniels
Garrett Nussmeier chats about former teammate and now starting QB for the Commanders, Jayden Daniels.
Sports Seriously
Week 1 brought dismal performances from both the New York Giants and Washington Commanders, but the best part about having a bad performance in Week 1 is that it can be easily put behind you with a strong Week 2 outing.
One of the bright spots for Washington was the rushing ability of rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. Daniels was as good as advertised on the ground, forcing Tampa Bay defenders to constantly keep their eyes on him to prevent him from running amok. Daniels’ passing prowess, however, left a bit to be desired. Daniels completed only ten passes to receivers and tight ends. While he did complete 70.8% of his passes overall, he was mostly conservative with his attempts, leading to a rather underwhelming day under center. Washington’s defense wasn’t much help either, allowing Baker Mayfield to go bananas, en route to a 37-20 defeat.
The Giants were arguably the biggest losers of Week 1. Sure, the Carolina Panthers may have been down by 27 at half, but the Giants were facing Sam Darnold and the Minnesota Vikings, yet still lost by three possessions. Rookie receiver Malik Nabers showed some promise in his debut, but it will be up to quarterback Daniel Jones to find his star receiver more often if the Giants want to sustain any offense moving forward.

Lorenzo Reyes: Commanders 17, Giants 14
The Giants were the only team to not crack double digits in points in Week 1. The Commanders are deeply flawed. I don’t feel good about anything but the under.
Tyler Dragon: Commanders 21, Giants 16
These are the two worst teams in the NFC East. But the Giants seem to be going backwards with QB Daniel Jones. The Commanders are an upcoming team with a promising rookie QB in Jayden Daniels. These two teams currently have opposite trajectories.
Richard Morin: Commanders 18, Giants 12
I love the under in this one. Jayden Daniels takes some steps forward but there’s still going to be work to do.
Jordan Mendoza: Commanders 24, Giants 19
Even in a loss, Jayden Daniels showed he can have a future for the Commanders. Daniel Jones still has everyone questioning his contract extension. Washington’s weapons shine in the first win for the rookie.
