New York Giants bracing for 2025 NFL salary cap to hit historic level | Sporting News
The New York Giants and the rest of the NFL are expecting another massive increase to the league’s salary cap in 2025.
While no official projections have been made just yet, a report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network surfaced Sunday morning detailing what teams are planning for during the upcoming offseason.
After working with a $255.4 million salary cap in 2024, NFL teams are reportedly budgeting for a $10-20 million increase in 2025, putting the potential cap at a historic $275 million, per Rapoport.
“Without an official projection from the league office, NFL teams are budgeting for a salary cap in the $265 million to $275 million range for 2025, sources say,” Rapoport wrote. “Planning is more difficult without the league projection that, until recent years, was distributed at the NFL’s December meeting and labor seminar that kicks off Monday in Dallas. But the league and NFL Players Association agreed not to release projections after they met last week.”
The Giants have a solid standing with the salary cap going into 2025 even though they are still on the hook for $22.2 million from the Daniel Jones contract.
According to Over The Cap, the Giants are slated to have roughly $58.29 million in cap space, which is on a $272.5 salary cap projection. That currently ranks 13th in the NFL.
The Giants have a lot of holes to fill, starting with the quarterback position, so it will be interesting to see how the front office goes about the offseason.
Rapoport also reported that “the league and union traditionally finish their accounting and agree to the final number around the NFL Scouting Combine,” so it may not be until late February that the NFL knows its exact number.
