New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton returned to the team for voluntary organized team activities (OTA) on Tuesday despite being in the middle of a contract dispute.
Slayton is looking for a new contract as he enters the final year of his current deal and has been absent from the voluntary workouts for the majority of the offseason.
However, photos released by the team Tuesday showed Slayton participating in drills with his fellow wide receivers.
It isn’t clear what sparked his return. Maybe he and the team came to an agreement on a new contract. Maybe he just missed being on the field with his teammates.
Either way, having Slayton back as the No. 2 on the outside opposite Malik Nabers is a great thing for Daniel Jones and the Giants’ passing attack.
He has been the leading receiver on the Giants in four of the last five seasons, including the 2023 campaign. He’s due to make $6.2 million and has a salary-cap hit of $8.15 million in 2024, per Over The Cap.
We’ll see what it means that Slayton is back, but it should provide a nice boost for the offense.
