New York Giants’ Darius Slayton reveals why he ended contract holdout | Sporting News

New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton returned to the team during the second week of organized team activities (OTA) despite opting to skip the voluntary workouts leading up to this week.

Slayton, who is in the final year of his contract, had been skipping voluntary workouts in hopes of getting a new deal from the team.

While that didn’t happen, Slayton told reporters at OTAs on Thursday that he did receive more incentives in his contract. He did not receive additional guarantees, however.

According to Field Yates of ESPN, Slayton’s incentives for 2024 increased from $1.5 million to $2.15 million.

Though he’s no longer the team’s top target in the passing game thanks to the arrival of rookie Malik Nabers, Slayton has been extremely productive for the Giants.

Slayton has been the leading receiver on the offense in four of the last five seasons, including the 2023 campaign.

The Giants passing attack needs to take a major step forward if they want be more competitive in 2024, and Slayton being back in the mix is a step toward achieving that goal.
