New York Giants: Make Shocking Pick In The 2025 NFL Mock Draft – Gridiron Heroics
The New York Giants had the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. A lot of fans wanted them to try and take a quarterback in the draft, but they didn’t go that route. It was actually the smart decision for the Giants because they selected wide receiver Malik Nabers from LSU with that pick.
Some people thought that the New York Giants were going to select quarterback J.J. McCarthy with that pick from Michigan, but the Minnesota Vikings took him 10th overall. He is projected to be the backup quarterback this season for veteran quarterback Sam Darnold.
New York finished with a 6-11 record last season and it will be interesting to see if there will be improvement this season. A lot of the 2024 NFL season will ride on quarterback Daniel Jones, who will be entering his sixth season.
New York Giants Make Shocking Selection In Latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft With Drafting Will Johnson, Cornerback, From Michigan
If the New York Giants are drafting near the top of the 2025 NFL Draft, it would be hard to believe that they would pass up on a quarterback once again. General manager Joe Schoen at some point would need to find his franchise quarterback because he was not the one who drafted Daniel Jones.
Head coach Brian Daboll would love to mold his own guy as well like he did with the Buffalo Bills with quarterback Josh Allen. Sayre Bedinger of nflspinzone.com thinks that the New York Giants would select cornerback Will Johnson from Michigan with the fifth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Bedinger said:
“There’s no team in the NFL that needs a quarterback more desperately than the New York Giants. Daniel Jones is not the answer. Drew Lock is not the answer. At least, neither of those players feels likely to be the answer. The Giants are in such a weird spot because they invested financially in Daniel Jones despite him only having one marginally solid season, a year in which he didn’t even average a touchdown throw per game.
What is the long-term plan for general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll? How many chances are they going to get from Giants ownership? This team made the playoffs two years ago, and while I absolutely loathe when people say teams got “lucky” in the NFL, the Giants might be a rare exception where it’s true. The stars aligned for one season. This team regressed to the mean in 2023 and is seemingly in denial over its quarterback situation.
Oh yeah, Will Johnson. So, the Giants take Will Johnson in this 2025 NFL mock draft scenario because he’s the best player on the board, an elite playmaker at the cornerback position, and plays a premium position. The Giants pair him up with Deonte Banks to have an enviable young duo at the position.”
The New York Giants cornerback position will be interesting to settle out this season. Other than Deonte Banks, they are not deep at the position. Andru Phillips and Cordale Flott are projected to be some of the other cornerbacks who will see play time this season.
Will Johnson last season with the Michigan Wolverines recorded 27 tackles, had four interceptions, one defensive touchdown, and four pass deflections. He has the talent to be a top-tier cornerback in the NFL.
Carson Beck and Sheuder Sanders Projected To Be the Top 2 Quarterbacks Off the Board in the 2025 NFL Draft
Carson Beck of Georgia and Sheuder Sanders of Colorado are projected to be the top two quarterbacks off the board in the 2025 NFL Draft. Beck in this mock draft is projected to go number one overall to the Las Vegas Raiders and Sanders is projected to go third to the Tennessee Titans in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The New York Giants would need to consider quarterback Quinn Ewers from the Texas Longhorns in the 2025 NFL Draft. There will also be other quarterbacks who climb up the 2025 NFL Draft board throughout the college football season. Taking cornerback Will Johnson fifth overall instead of a quarterback with this selection where the Giants might be a quarterback away after this season would be silly.
