New York Giants named possible trade suitor for former Pro Bowl quarterback | Sporting News

With the start of the season just about here, the future of the quarterback position for the New York Giants remains in flux.

Daniel Jones is making his way back from a torn ACL that ended his season prematurely in 2023, and he’s missed 17 games over the last three seasons combined.

Jones’ injury history and overall struggles to be a difference-maker have many wondering how much longer he’ll be under center for the Giants.

Thus, the Giants are popular landing spots in hypothetical trade scenarios for quarterbacks.

The latest comes from Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report, who suggested the Giants as a potential trade suitor for Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Mac Jones.

“The Jaguars might not expect a massive haul for the 25-year-old since he’s entering the final year of his rookie contract, but desperation could lead to a team offering up a Day 2 draft selection or a capable player for him,” Knox wrote. “The New York Giants might be willing to take a flier on Jones if Daniel Jones flops in what is possibly his last audition to be the team’s long-term starter.”

With respect to Knox, the Giants giving up a Day 2 pick for Mac Jones in desperation to replace Daniel Jones for whatever reason is an easy way for Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll to be fired.

If the Giants feel the need to replace Jones, it’s more likely they would make him the backup and give Drew Lock the starting reins. They signed Lock as potential insurance for Jones during the offseason.

The former first-round pick and 2021 Pro Bowl selection completed 67.6% of his passes for 3,801 yards, 22 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions that season. He’s been a disaster since then, throwing 24 touchdowns and 23 interceptions over the next two seasons.

Anything can happen in the NFL, but this move would be a true surprise for the Giants.
